You might be asking yourself how I find time to read books if I can't get new tutorials posted. :-)
Just think of it as personal development; all part of the job.
This isn't exactly a book review because I haven't finished the book yet but it's impressed me enough to bring it to your attention.
Dan and Chip Heath have written Made to Stick to promote their views on how many of us can become better communicators by presenting a core idea that contains substance as soon as possible in presentation, training, marketing, or most any kind of communication.
A topic they cover is "the Curse of Knowledge" which occurs when we know too much about a topic to be able to speak clearly and plainly to someone who knows nothing about the topic. This is one of my pet peeves in 3ds Max and VIZ training.
The book contains lots of examples of poor communication and then gives ideas of how to rectify it, many times using examples that we encounter in our day-to-day lives.
I'd recommend the book if you are involved in training or presentations or if you'd just like to improve your communication skills in general.
Now I'll get back to work.

Ted,
What a great recommendation. I picked up a copy (the last one at that particular bookstore) and was immediately engrossed. The "Curse of Knowledge" seems very difficult to overcome. I can't thank you enough. - Sean Re: Re: Book review: Made to Stick

Hey Sean, Yes, that's always a tough one; it's simple when you know how. I'm about 3/4 way through the book and will find the insights useful, I'm sure. There are quite a few of the techniques that I already use in one form or another; for example that learning max or viz is a lot like learning to play the violin, you need the basics and then lots of practice. But I should be able to refine some of that from what I've learned in the book. Some of the examples they give are very enlightening. Later Ted Trackbacks
